The World War II Photo of the Week for 20 December 2004

Still On Guard ... More than ten years after the end of the war (this photo was taken ca. 1955), this German Panther tank still stands guard in the Belgian town of Houffalize, just 100 meters from the town center on the road to Bastogne. This particular tank was recovered from the river Ourthe, where it ended upside down during the fighting in and around Houffalize at the height of the Battle of the Bulge during December 1944.
