Favorite Scene: Attack! Two Mosquitos race up the fjord toward the target. When the squadron commander realizes that 633 Squadron has probably been totally wiped out, he stoically and rather ridiculously responds "You can't kill a squadron". Being written ... One of three surviving wartime Mosquitos used in the filming taxis after landing. Cliff Robertson portrays Major Grant, a war-weary American with roots in the Eagle Squadron.

Larry's Take: The Best Aerial Combat Sequences of Its Time Grant and his navigator, played by Angus Lennie, during one of the practice missions leading up to "X" day. A Mosquito approaches the Norwegian coast at full throttle. Being written.

Grant discusses the target with Capt. Bergman (George Chakiris), perhaps the swarthiest Norwegian resistance leader in Hollywood history. Note the Eagle Squadron emblem on Robertson's sleeve, identifying him as an American who joined the RAF in the early days of the war.

Since both 633 Squadron and The Great Escape were both Mirisch Corp. releases, Grauman used extra footage from the latter in his film. Here we see the POW convoy from the title sequence of TGE standing in as a German convoy being sized up by the "Ling," the Norwegian resistance.
